When the thyroid is weak the gallbladder will not empty bile, creating a whole host of problems including constipation, high cholesterol, high estrogen or low progesterone causing fibroid tumors, cysts and tumors on breasts and ovaries, osteoporosis, and acid reflux with associated phlegm production and cough. If the bile remains stagnant in the gallbladder it becomes sludge-like.
The Good News
At this stage it is still possible to thin out the bile with dietary changes and herbs and bring it back to its liquid state, though modern medical treatment removes the gallbladder when they find sludge. However, If the sludge sits for too many years creating gallstones and subsequent gallbladder disease, it should be removed as the problem was allowed to sit and fester for too long. Even if the gallbladder was removed it is still important to thin out the bile with the measures outlined in my book because bile is still being made in the liver. Again, get to the root of the problem; identify and fix all the reasons the bile got thick in the first place so gallstones don’t develop. It’s much easier to prevent a disease. Once a disease has taken hold in the body it is much more difficult to fix. Fortunately, gallbladder disease, even in the sludge state, is easy to prevent and fix.
