How Important is Vitamin K2?

Vitamin k2 what it is, how to get it, what it's good for

Vitamin K2 is one of the most recent ones to be discovered. It wasn’t even formally classified until 2006 and is so interesting to study!  It has the ability to place calcium where it belongs – in the bones and teeth – and keep it from places where it does not belong! Where might that be? In the arteries contributing to plaque formation or hardening of the arteries.  Or in the joints causing arthritis. Or in the brain causing plaque and dementia. Or in the kidneys.

Lack of Vitamin K2

We also know that lack of Vitamin K2 is a major contributing factor in the formation of kidney stones, and researchers will continue to discover numerous other benefits of this amazing new vitamin.  Where do we better incorporate it in the diet? It’s found in the butterfat of cows who are eating rapidly growing grass in the spring and fall. It is highly concentrated in what is known as “butter oil,” or clarified butter or ghee, which was highly prized by the ancient doctors of Ayurveda.

These ancient doctors knew, without microscopes, that clarifying the butter would confer greater health benefits than just eating the butter alone. They also knew it would protect the arteries, contribute to strong bones and teeth, and nourish the brain.  The ancient doctors stated that children who grew up eating ghee would be extremely intelligent, and also said it would increase fertility in both men and women. Now we know those things happen because the brain and the reproductive hormones are made of cholesterol. In fact human sperm contains a very high concentration of Vitamin K2. Of course a high amount is found in the kidneys which is used to prevent kidney stones.

Compare ghee to other popular fatty oils.

Good Ghee and Vitamin K2

Eat your ghee every day. By doing so you are preventing so many diseases and promoting a long healthy life!

Make sure your ghee is made from the butter of cows who are pasture-raised and are eating grass. The health benefits will be less if the cows are fed grains.  Remember, the deeper the yellow color of the ghee, the more Vitamin K2 it contains. Please don’t even think about taking this as a synthetic vitamin supplement. You will be taking the toxic version of the real thing, making your liver and kidneys working overtime to excrete it from the body.
